Challenge Two: Day Seventy-Five

Breakfast: 9am
1 Blueberry Visalus Shake

Mid-Morning: Nothing.

Lunch: Nothing.

Mid-Afternoon: 5pm
2 Grilled Cheese Sandwiches (on Rye, w/Sliced Jalapenos)
1 Lg. Bowl of Popcorn
16oz. Diet Rite

Evening: 8pm
1 Double Snickers Visalus Shake

State of Being:
So, I tried my first Snickers shake today.

I used WAY too much caramel-extract so it tasted kinda off. It was still good though.

Got waylayed by extreme fatigue this morning.

It’s pretty clear to me now that the illness is not going to go quietly in this fight. I’m still dealing with occasional bouts of high blood pressure, migraines, depression (lots of that one lately) and, of course these episodes of *as-if-you’ve-been-hit-in-the-skull-with-a-brick* fatigue.

Maybe Challenge Three will be the one where the lion’s share of these morbidities start falling back and quitting the field.

See you tomorrow!

1 Lrg. Taco Salad (w/Tortillas)
16oz. Diet Rite
46oz. Water

State of Being:
Not in a great place right now. Things have been rough.

Hanging in there, though.

I slept a lot better last night than I did the night before.

I recently did a bit of reading on the peaks and valleys on the path to success in any venture. I’m definitely experiencing a valley right now.

I’m in one of those spans of time wherein it truly feels like you’re not making any progress because you’re not seeing results.

You don’t really *see* a rain-storm gathering when it truly begins to form either. You only see it when it’s in the offing.

I've been really frustrated for the last little bit.

I am taking the hits and continuing to move forward. My feet are contacting the ground, and pushing it by underneath me, a step at a time, over and over and over. But, my eyes are blinded by blood, sweat and tears right now, so I can’t really see my destination drawing any closer. I can, however, feel the ground being pushed away behind me by the steady, if laborious churning of my legs, one after the other.

I WILL get there.

Also, I came across this video today. It’s awesome.
(The couple featured at 3:07 looks kinda familiar.)

Enjoy! :)

See you tomorrow!

Evening: 9pm
1 Round Steak (w/Sweet-Pepper Tabasco Sauce)
1 Garden Salad (w/Blue Cheese Dressing)
46oz. Water

State of Being:
It doesn’t happen often, but every once in a while, I have a dream/nightmare that leaves me feeling really shaken upon waking, but when I think about it I can totally understand the dredged-up issues that fueled it.

So, while it’s not like me to really talk about dreams here on the blog, I think I would like to share the one I had last night. It illuminates a lot about stuff that’s been weighing on me lately.

Myself and a good number of family members (both immediate and extended) were all living-together-at/visiting (somehow both at the same time) at my grandmother’s house in Stow.

Everybody was going about typical, daily activities; cooking, doing the laundry, tending to the yardwork, etc. And all the while, there was this large black-bear hanging around. It would wander around in the backyard or snoop around in the basement, sometimes it would nose about in the corners of the living room or the bedrooms upstairs.

All the while, we’re there… just going about our business. On the surface it seemed like everybody was OK with the bear’s presence. It was as if it were a house-cat or the family dog.

At the same time, everybody was aware that it was dangerous and that we all had to be careful around it. Every once in a while, it would get angry and start coming after me. The prevailing consensus was that, when that happened you just needed to get something between you and it, so that it couldn’t get to you, and keep it at bay until it got bored or calmed down and went off to do something else.

This kept happening.

Every time, I would grab a nearby table or large chair, one time there was somehow even a shopping cart close at hand. And I would just keep the object between me and the bear. It would swat at the object, growl and roar at me, but eventually it would just kind of give up and walk away.

As the dream progressed, I was growing more and more disturbed by the bear. I kept thinking, "yeah… for the most part it just seems curious and all, but at some point something’s going to go wrong.

It’s not an ‘if.’ It’s a ‘when.’

It IS going to get ahold of someone and something really terrible is going to happen. We really need to do something about it. But, there’s nothing we can do."

So, we just kept living with it and trying to linger in the time before the inevitable calamity, for as long as we could and doing our best to pay no attention to the fact that soon, the whole situation was going turn absolutely horrible, that any moment we would suddenly have to face tragedy that would strike each and every one of us to the deepest places in our hearts.

For the time being we just carried on as best we could, and tried to savor the last moments of peace, however many or few they may have been.

See you tomorrow.

For right now, I’m just working on not letting things get to me so much.

See you tomorrow!

Challenge Two: Day Seventy-One

Lunch: Nothing.

Mid-Afternoon: 4pm
1 Chocolate-Covered Banana Visalus Shake

Evening: 8pm
1 Round Steak
1 Garden Salad (w/Italian Dressing)
46oz. Water

State of Being:
Today really got away from me, time-wise.

Lots of unexpected little problems to fix. I’ve got most of it nailed down, but it’s been a pretty long and frustrating day. I tried to do some laundry, only to have something go awry with the dryers in my building’s laundry, so I had to bring two loads of wet clothes back to the apartment and rig-up a clothesline throughout the place to get everything dried.

It worked, but it was still a pain.

Then something went wrong with the composition program I’m using to keep this log, off-line (which I then copy and paste into blogger.) So, I couldn’t get into my food-log until I uninstalled and reinstalled the program. Snapped a belt in my vacuum, for which I had no replacement. It was just kind of an off-day all around.

But, it’s over now, and I’m off to bed.

See you tomorrow!

Mid-Morning: Nothing.

Lunch: 12noon
1 Butterfinger Visalus Shake

Mid-Afternoon: 3pm
1 Butterfinger Visalus Shake

Evening: 6pm

State of Being:
Got about half my grocery-shopping done this morning before a family emergency cut the trip short (we had to suit-up and thwart a Thanagarian Death-Ray Activation in Mongolia.)

Going to try to get the rest of it done tomorrow. (The shopping, not the Contra-Alien-Insurgency. That stuff went over without a hitch. Mason’s thunderbolts are coming along nicely. Good distance, mad damage and gradually improving accuracy.)

I’ve decided to try making my own Rye Bread again, after a terribly botched attempt a few months ago. Homemade rye is from heaven, if you can get it right.

I’ll let you know how it goes.

Knee’s not really bugging me as much today. I’m going to give it through the weekend before I jump back into walks & squats though.

See you tomorrow!
